Elbert Duncan Thomas was born 17 June 1883. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1906 and then the University of California at Berkeley in 1924. He served in the Utah National Guard, was a professor of political science at the University of Utah from 1924 to 1933, and was elected to the United States Senate in 1932. Phillip (Philip) Nephi Margetts was born on February 10, 1829, in Warwickshire, England, where he worked as a mechanic and engine driver. He was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1841 and traveled to Salt Lake City in 1850.
